Premises liability evaluations require knowledge of building codes, industry standards, construction practices, and maintenance requirements and processes. With this a given property may be evaluated for compliance and/or deficiencies. Understanding how the incident occurred requires the application of human factors - the study of how people interact with their environment and the objects and systems therein, utilizing knowledge of perception, expectation, attention, cognition, and human capabilities and limitations.
